Prayer Shawl Ministry

Offering a reminder of God’s comforting embrace!

Shawls…made for centuries universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed as if given wings to fly above their troubles…” Written in 1998 by Janet Bristow who started a Prayer Shawl ministry in 1998.  For more information, click here.

Care and the love of the craft of knitting (and crochet & sewing) have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace.  Many blessings are knitted into every shawl. The knitter begins each shawl with prayers for the recipient.  Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. When the shawl is completed it is offered before the congregation of St. James for a final blessing before being sent along its way.

Shawls are given freely as a gift to anyone in need. If your means allow, donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated! Donations allow us to keep this ministry strong and ongoing. It is the Pay-it-Forward concept of treating others with kindness and helping them in times of need, and in return, that person will help others because of the help that you gave them. If everyone does a kind deed for another, it eventually comes full circle back.

Donations can be in the form of money, wool, or gift cards to neighborhood wool/craft shops.

Thank you for your support!
