ALL Are Welcome at St. James!
Our congregation in historic downtown Greeneville, Tennessee, seeks unity with God and each other in Jesus Christ.
St. James is a community of “radical welcome.” Together, we strive to serve the Living Christ. We hope you experience Christ’s presence in this active and growing Christian community.
Wherever you are on your faith journey, we invite you to make a deeper connection with God at St. James Episcopal Church. Experience the spirit of love and acceptance surrounding you as we learn, worship together, and share our gifts in this inclusive and caring Christ-centered community.
Who We Are!
We are an Episcopal Parish in the Diocese of East Tennessee,
part of the Episcopal Church in the United States,
and the Worldwide Anglican Communion.
We are the Episcopal Branch
of the Jesus Movement!
The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We can trace our heritage back to the ministry of the Holy Apostles. Like the first apostles, the historic episcopate guards the Church’s faith, unity, and discipline and ordains women and men to continue Christ’s ministry.
We strive to live by Jesus’s teachings and example. We welcome the stranger and the outcast, help our neighbors, and offer love and forgiveness. In the Episcopal Church, everyone is welcome!
As constituent members of the Anglican Communion in the United States, we are descendants of and partners with the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church in the United States is part of the third-largest global Christian body.
We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe in and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. His life, death, and resurrection saved the world. The Episcopal Church has a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell our story and represent God’s love for all of humanity. We acknowledge leadership is a gift from God. Leadership can be expressed by anyone, regardless of race, economic class, sexual identity, or sexual orientation. We ordain both men and women to serve as bishops, priests, and deacons (3 orders of biblical ministry) in our Church. Lay and clergy are ministry partners at all levels of governance in our Church.
Additionally, we believe you are valued and that God loves you – no exceptions.
