Who we are!
We are the Episcopal Church in Greeneville, TN,
part of the Diocese of East Tennessee,
part of the Episcopal Church in the United States,
and part of the Worldwide Anglican Communion.
The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We trace our heritage back to the ministry of the first apostles. Like the first apostles, the historic episcopate safeguards the Church’s faith, unity, and discipline, and ordains both women and men to continue Christ’s ministry.
Our goal is to live by Jesus’ teachings and example. We strive for justice and peace, respect the dignity of all people, welcome the stranger and the outcast, seek to serve Christ in all persons, and offer love and forgiveness. In the Episcopal Church, everyone is welcome!
As constituent members of the Anglican Communion in the United States, we are descendants of and partners with (in communion with) the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church in the United States is part of the third-largest Christian body in the world.
The Episcopal Church in the United States is in full communion partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the Moravian Church in America, the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, the Old Catholic Churches of the Union of Utrecht, the Philippine Independent Church, the Church of Sweden, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria, and the Churches Beyond Borders. The Episcopal Church remains in ecumenical dialogue with the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church USA, and the Roman Catholic Church.
We believe that Jesus is the Christ!
We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe in and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, knowing his life, death, and resurrection saved the world. The Episcopal Church has a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell our story and represent God’s love for all of humanity. We acknowledge that leadership is a gift from God. Leadership can be expressed by anyone, regardless of race, economic class, sexual identity, or sexual orientation. We ordain both men and women to serve as bishops, priests, and deacons (3 orders of biblical ministry) in our Church. Lay and clergy are ministry partners at all levels of governance in our Church.
Additionally, we believe you are valued and that God loves YOU – no exceptions.
