We will gather in front of the Greeneville Courthouse and proceed to St. James Episcopal Church, stopping to reflect on Jesus and his last moments before his death on the cross.
The Stations of the Cross (also called the Way of the Cross) are usually observed during the season of Lent, especially on Lenten Fridays and, most importantly, Good Friday. This devotion focuses on the Passion of Jesus Christ and consists of meditating on 14 events that form the 14 stations of the cross.
Why should we pray the Stations of the Cross?
The most important reason for reviving the practice of making the Stations of the Cross is a powerful way to contemplate and enter into the mystery of Jesus’ gift of himself to us.
When you pray Stations of the Cross, you are tracing the footsteps of Christ in his journey from being condemned to death to his resurrection. Upon beginning the Stations, we make a good act of contrition, knowing that those sins are precisely why Christ obediently died. Knowing that Our Lord and Savior died such a violent death for the love of us, meditating on the Stations of the Cross becomes an experience where one can unite with Christ.
Allow the Lord to speak to your heart and give him complete reign in your heart. Meditating upon the passion of Jesus draws a soul closer to God. This meditation lets you contemplate Christ’s suffering and his victory over sin and death. The Holy Spirit will fill your soul with knowledge and abundant graces.
